Historical ContextMaus: A Survivor's Tale was written by Art Spiegelman. In this graphic novel, he tells about his father's life as a Jew during the Holocaust. To better understand the novel, it is important to know about the events of World War II and the Holocaust.
There are several Holocaust survivors who have written about their experiences. We can learn from their stories, as well as the words of those who did not survive, such as Anne Frank. Below are links to several survivors and their stories as well as virtual museums and other resources.

Choose one of the projects below to complete. If you have time, you can do another one for extra credit.
1. Create your own comic strip/ graphic story to reflect what you've learned about the Holocaust. This can be about the genocide, the political or military aspects, or the resistance movement. |
2. Create a pamphlet, poster, or newspaper (paper or electronic) discussing nationalism and targeting people today in an effort to avoid the pitfalls of extreme nationalism. |
3. Make a cube (or series of slides) discussing one of the below:

4. Write a series of short pieces (poems, stories, songs, essays) that capture the impact and emotions of the Holocaust or Jewish traditions.
