Forgiving Dr. Mengele featuring Eva Mozes Kor
Eva Mozes and her twin sister, Miriam, were born January 31, 1934, in a small Romanian farming village. Her family peacefully farmed and practiced their Jewish faith until the annexation of their home by Hungary. After that, they were faced with anti-Semitic harassment from those they had previously called friends.
When the family was eventually sent to Auschwitz, Eva and Miriam were spared from immediate death because of being twins. Identical twins have identical genetics, which made them prime candidates for medical experiments performed by the Nazi doctor, Josef Mengele. After her liberation, Eva Kor eventually came to the United States where she worked tirelessly trying to obtain Dr. Mengele's research records in an effort to help her sister who was permanently debilitated by the experiments. She also founded a museum dedicated to the Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors (CANDLES) located in Terra Haute, Indiana. |
